Gene M. Simpson, MD Named Honorary Chairperson for Mi-Co User Days 2006
Dr. Simpson is a 1969 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his M.D. degree in 1973 from The Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University and completed his Pediatric Residency at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in 1976. He is Board certified in pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. For the next 23 years he practiced general pediatrics at Winston-Salem Health Care. Dr. Simpson served as the Division Director of Pediatrics at Forsyth Medical Center for 9 years (1992 - 2001). An interest in the computer-based patient record eventually resulted in a position as Director of Medical Informatics at Novant Health/Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. In 2001 he was the project lead for the OB/GYN Anesthesia Mi-Co Pen Notepad/Pocket PC Documentation Project. While at Novant Health he served on many information technology projects including the nursing documentation team, emergency department information system selection team, patient safety, quality management initiatives. He also served as Medical Director of the Pediatric Advanced Life Support Program at Forsyth Medical Center and Chair of the Forsyth County Child Fatality Prevention Team and Community Child Protection Team.
In 2003 Dr. Simpson joined the Solutions Consultant Group at McKesson Provider Technologies as a Vice-President of Medical Affairs. During the past three years at McKesson he also spent one year as Ambulatory Care Product Manager. He is currently involved in sales support for McKesson’s physician clinical solutions (ambulatory care, emergency care, computer-based physician order entry). |
