Communities In Schools of Wake County serves economically disadvantaged children and youth in public schools and community-based learning centers throughout Wake County. They provide one-on-one case management, after-school tutoring, mentoring by volunteers, and enrichment including life skills, positive behavior choices, and college/career prep. Their mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Our vision is to help schools remove the barriers that place students at risk of wasting their potential. Among CIS Wake’s core values is the belief that every child needs and deserves a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult, a chance to give back to peers and the community, and a marketable skill to use upon graduation. CIS lives by the slogan: "Give back to the future".
In addition to providing aid to several different learning centers in Wake County, CIS also works with many local public schools, including:
- Athens Drive High School
- East Wake Middle School
- Enloe High School
- Knightdale High School
- Millbrook High School
- Powell Elementary School
