Mi-Co, the mobile data capture company, announced at its annual user day, the availability of the third generation of the Mi-Forms Software System with the shipment of Release 3.2. Mi-Forms, which originally came to market in 2001, enables organizations to efficiently collect data in a mobile environment, increase the quality of the collected data, and quickly use the information gathered by direct distribution to back end systems for analysis and monitoring functions.
"Version 3 of Mi-Forms supports an extensive array of handwriting capture platforms: Tablet PCs, Pens, Electronic Signature Pads and Pocket PCs," said James Clary, CEO of Mi-Co. "In fact, the code name for this release was 'Project Flexibility' because our goal was to increase customer flexibility in implementing applications that require electronic data capture in a mobile environment while they use the most intuitive interface on the planet: pen on paper."
Mi-Forms enables enterprises to take easy-to-use pen-on-paper forms, capture critical data and actively use this information to get work done faster and more efficiently. The Mi-Forms solution contains four key components that work in concert to increase the efficiency of the data capture process and increase the quality of the data through the use of state of the art hand writing recognition, verification and business rules. These components are:
--Mi-Forms Form Designer, which allows for the electronic representation of a paper form that within the Mi-Forms System can include a host of business rules for increased data accuracy
--Mi-Forms Data Collector, which sends the captured data to a server for processing and storage either by wireless or wired methods
--Mi-Forms Data Acceptor, which handles requests from the Forms Designer and Data Collector to efficiently update forms and store uploaded data. In addition, it provides graphical representations of uploaded forms and their ink and exports the data to enterprise applications
--Mi-Forms Data Manager, which allows for the management of user accounts and for the verification and editing of data to ensure increased quality.
"We have analyzed each of these components to ensure that our users have the greatest flexibility in implementing their mobile data capture tasks," said Barrett Joyner, Sr. VP of Sales and Marketing at Mi-Co, "and Version 3 of Mi-Forms represents a significant leap forward, especially in the support of data capture devices such as the new Tablet PCs and electronic signature pads."
Version 3 of Mi-Forms continues the support of the Pocket PCs that was introduced in previous versions of the software. In addition, support of the new Tablet PCs running Windows XP Tablet PC Edition is now available for general release, as is support for the Seiko SmartPad and support of the ePad-ink from Interlink. Support for the Logitech io Pen is declared beta in Release 3.2.
"Each of the data capture devices we support provide unique features for the user. With our support for a host of key devices, customers can select the hardware that fits their needs with the knowledge that Mi-Forms Software will be available to meet their data capture requirements." said Joyner.
"While support of the Tablet PC is a highly visible feature of Version 3, there are a number of other key enhancements shipping with Release 3.2 that bring new functionality to the system," said Greg Clary, Mi-Co Chief Technology Officer.
New functionality in Version 3 includes:
* Improved Handwriting Recognition: new engine provides up to 98.5% accuracy for letters, 99.5% accuracy for digits
* Workflow Components have been added to allow multiple users to collaborate on form completion
* Audio Annotations: audio recordings can augment form data
* Integration components for the Tablet PC that allow for dynamic updating of form elements such as picklists to increase ease of data collection
* An extensible plugin architecture and flexible API that allows 3rd party or custom software to exchange data with Mi-Forms Data Collectors
* The new robust and scalable Mi-Forms Server Signature Repository for storing and retrieving signatures and associated data
* Support for GPS - data collectors can associate a location and time stamp with their data
"With Version 3 now in production and shipping to our licensed customers, it marks a significant day at Mi-Co as we continue to find news ways to allow our customers to efficiently and effectively collect data on the move and provide those data assets to applications throughout their organizations" added Jim Clary.
