Research Triangle Park, NC, September 2, 2003. Mi-Co and Anoto announced today a strategic alliance in which Mi-Co will become an Anoto services provider for enterprise handwritten data capture software applications. With this agreement in place, Mi-Co will launch commercial mobile data capture software solutions that use Anoto's state of the art technology for paper based digital communication.
"This agreement provides Mi-Co with the key technologies and infrastructure support from Anoto that allows Mi-Co to bring digital pen based data capture solutions to enterprise and government markets in a completely seamless fashion. Based upon this agreement, Mi-Co customers will have the flexibility and power of Anoto functionality built into Mi-Co's Mi-Forms Software, the Anoto functionality is a significant new technology in the digital writing space. Our customers have been extremely excited about this technology during our beta test phases." said Jim Clary, CEO of Mi-Co.
"Mi-Co now has the right to use the Anoto infrastructure, to license Anoto patterns for the Mi-Forms application and gain support from the Anoto team to bring digital pen applications with Anoto functionality to market," stated Pietro Parravicini, President of Anoto America. "We are pleased to take this step with Mi-Co since Mi-Co was one of the first enterprise technology teams with whom Anoto has worked. Mi-Co will bring Anoto functionality to its marquee customers in key forms-oriented vertical markets. At the first annual Anoto developer's conference last year, Mi-Co demonstrated their deep understanding of the mobile data capture market space and how digital pen applications could be cost effectively used in their target markets.
Greg Barnes Nelson, CEO of ThotWave Technologies (www.thotwave.com) has been using the Mi-Forms System with the Logitech io Pen to capture data in the company's CRM application. "With Mi-Forms Software taking advantage of Anoto Functionality it allows us to capture data virtually anytime, anywhere and quickly store and use that data as a corporate asset"
"Mi-Co has been using the Anoto Software Development Kit since 2002 in developing our beta software for the Logitech io Pen," stated Greg Clary, Mi-Co's Chief Technology Officer. "In developing in this environment and working with Mi-Forms customers, we see the huge potential this technology has in deploying large scale, enterprise data capture applications in our key target markets of government, public safety and healthcare solutions." Clary added.
"Using Anoto functionality in Mi-Co's Mi-Forms Software System allows even greater flexibility for our customers to capture mobile data. With our upcoming release of Mi-Forms 3.5 scheduled for this month, users will be able to add Digital Pens to their data capture arsenals which currently include Mi-Forms support for Tablet PCs, Pocket PCs, and signature capture devices," added Barrett Joyner, Sr. Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Mi-Co.
Anoto Functionality, Digital Pens and the Mi-Forms Software System
Anoto functionality brings together digital communication and handwriting, putting the power of digital communication into pen and paper. Anoto functionality involves digital pen, digital paper and server technologies. Through this functionality, information written on paper that is printed with special patterns licensed from Anoto is read by a digital pen and transmitted via Anoto infrastructure.
The io2 Digital Pen from Logitech that is currently supported by Mi-Forms Software has the Anoto functionality built in. This allows users to write with the pen, capture the ink strokes from the pen, and seamlessly transfer that information to Mi-Co's enterprise software applications. The Mi-Forms Software converts handwriting into digital text and sends the information to the organization's back end database systems.
"When individuals use the Logitech io Digital Pen on digital paper with the Anoto pattern they are capturing the ink strokes and the coordinates of that ink. The Mi-Forms Software System collects that information from the digital pen when it is docked in the cradle attached to a PC and converts that data into digital form," said Greg Clary, Chief Technology Officer of Mi-Co.
Mi-Co, the mobile data capture company, provides software to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the entire process of capturing and using data. Mi-Co's end-to-end enterprise Mi-Forms Software System enables the capture, handwriting verification and communication of forms based and free-form pen-on-paper data for enterprise users. Mi-Forms supports enterprise data capture using the Tablet PC, the Logitech io Digital Pen, Pocket PCs and signature capture devices. Mi-Co's vertical markets for the Mi-Forms Software include healthcare and pharmaceuticals, public safety, and governmental services, and Mi-Co has a growing number of customers in these segments. Mi-Co is headquartered in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. For more information on Mi-Co, visit www.mi-corporation.com
