Research Triangle Park, NC. May 13, 2004. When Debra Harris, Home Health Director of Wilson County took the podium to accept her award as Mi-Forms User of the Year for 2003, industry leaders from Logitech, HP, and Acer took notice. While others were assessing mobile data capture solutions, Ms. Harris was successfully launching a project on forms automation and mobile data capture to 60 personnel on the Tablet PC. When Jim Eller presented on the Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority application to increase the efficiency of capturing data for the Indian Health Service's patient information database, the ROI numbers got everyone's attention. These were just two of the highlights of the Mi-Co Annual User Day held in the Research Triangle Park.
"Last year's kickoff event highlighted organizations that were on the leading edge of using forms automation and handwriting recognition in their mobile data capture activities," said Jim Clary, CEO of Mi-Co, "but this year, attendees were presented with specific cases where using digital writing technology had a measurable bottom line impact on their organizations'saving time and money."
Industry Leaders Present on the State of Digital Writing and Forms Automation
Highlights of the day included presentations by Jan Edbrooke, Business Manager for Logitech's io Digital Pen and Ed Waggle, HP Business Manager on the new Forms
Automation System introduced last month by HP. Additionally, highlights of a study on the impact of Mi-Forms using various data capture devices in a clinical trials setting were presented. This research was conducted for the National Cancer Institute with the findings presented by Elodia B. Cole, Research Associate, University of North Carolina Department of Radiology.
This report, comparing the efficiency and effectiveness of digital pens, tablet PCs, and pocket PCs will be published this summer.
Besides HP and Logitech, other key sponsors such as Acer, a leading Tablet PC vendor; Patientree, a provider of technology solutions in the new age of Digital Hospitals and Wacom, the leading manufacturer of pen tablets and pens in the world demonstrated the latest technology in the digital writing world.
User Impact of Efficient Mobile Data Capture with Mi-Forms
While Mi-Co took the opportunity to officially launch the newest release of the Mi-Forms System, Version 4, the majority of the audience also came to hear about the real world impacts of the use of handwriting recognition and mobile data capture solutions technology. Presentations answered such key questions as:
How the Wilson County Home Health Nurses are reducing the time spent on paperwork and increasing the time spent with patients
How in a National Cancer Institute Clinical Trials Study, mobile data capture via Mi-Forms in conjunction with Digital Pens and Tablet PCs was shown to be easier, quicker and more accurate than alternative approaches
How a Visiting Nurses Program in a large metropolitan area is capturing data with the Logitech io Digital Pen and the Mi-Forms System to eliminate steps in data processing (such as keying of the data)
How the Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority is using the Mi-Forms System in concert with the HP Forms Automation System to reduce costs and increase payments for Indian Health Service facilities.
How a large federal laboratory is tracking the thousands of animals housed in their labs
