Research Triangle Park, NC. August 26, 2003. Wilson County is implementing state of the art mobile data capture technology from Mi-Co to analyze expected cost savings and maximize the quality of the data they collect while serving their clients. The pilot program will begin September 1st for the Wilson County Home Health Agency and will be under the direction of the Agency's Home Health Director, Debra Harris.
"We have three goals in mind for this project," stated Debra Harris, "First, we expect an overall decrease in cost related to printing forms, copying forms and the storage of forms. Second, we feel we will see an increased acceptance in complying with HIPPA regulations by securing patient data in computer files rather than paper that is less secure. Finally, we feel that we will be giving the nursing staff better access to patient information with regard to previous notes and visit records. This will empower the nurses to spend less time with paperwork and more time with the patients"
The project includes the electronic capture of OASIS (Outcome & Assessment Information Set) data. OASIS includes comprehensive assessment data for adult home care patients that is sent to state agencies and ultimately administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), US Department of Health and Human Services. OASIS is a key component of Medicare's partnership with the home care industry to foster and monitor improved home health care outcomes.
"We are excited about working with the Wilson County Home Health Agency in this pilot project," said Barrett Joyner, Sr. VP of Sales and Marketing of Mi-Co. "In one previous government application, the project manager found a time savings of over 50% on the data capture process. We look forward to Wilson County gaining similar results.
