Mi-Co Selected as the only U.S. Company to Participate in Japanese Program

CEO will join 12 other executives to strengthen international business relations

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (February 6, 2001) --The Japan Economic Foundation (JEF) announced today that they have selected one U.S. participant, based in Research Triangle Park, to participate in the 20th Japan Study Programme for International Executives (JASPIE). Mi-Co - developer of handwriting solutions for the Mobile Internet will strengthen business relations overseas and deepen the understanding of Japan through personal experience.

As part of the JASPIE program, Mi-Co will participate in a series of seminars, tours of industrial plants and laboratories of leading companies and explore traditional values in Japanese history and culture.

"As Japan's economic growth continues to vastly expand with other countries, it's important that we learn to improve communications and exchange views with the business communities, mass media and governments of other countries," said Jim Clary, Mi-Co's co-founder and CEO. "We are excited that Mi-Co has the opportunity to participate in this effort and are honored to be chosen to represent the U.S."

"In selecting participants for this program, we look to entrepreneul excellence in combination with interesting technology, said Sumio Shibata, Senior Trade Advisor, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). "Mi-Co's end-to-end solutions help people solve real-world mobile data capture and messaging problems in a very fast, natural and personalized way. This innovation represents an upcoming trend in international business correspondence and will be an asset to our program."

The JASPIE Programme is hosted by JEF under the auspices of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and with the cooperation of JETRO.

Mi-Co's pen-on-paper solutions, a combination of hardware, software and application services, include Mi-NotePad - a product that enables handheld mobile device users to digitally capture and store, free-form and form-based handwriting and sketches. This product complements Mi-Co's Mi-Messages, a service that enables users to efficiently transmit this information wirelessly - via standard e-mail applications - to other PDAs, personal computers or faxes. In addition, Mi-Co's unique forms-based technology also enables easy and efficient wireless data input for a number of vertical industries including medical, banking/insurance, legal, public safety and CRM.
